Gabelshus – a charming Hotel on Oslo’s West End featuring hospitality for generations. In a quiet street in the best part of Oslo’s West End, well secluded from city noise is Gabelshus Hotell. And yet the hotel is so centrally located that you are only a short walk to the middle of Karl Johans gate. Behind the brick façade and Virginia creeper you will find a magnificent little hotel with a long, distinguished history. Designed by the two famous city architects Morgenstierne and Eide, Gabelshus was built as a guesthouse already in 1912. From the beginning Gabelshus was managed by women until today, when a new generation has taken over. In the first year of peace after the war Miss Agathe Frølich took over operations, and Gabelshus received its hotel licence in 1949.. Today Eiendomsspar as own the hotel Gabelshus and the neighbouring Ritz Hotell. For all these years Gabelshus has maintained its traditions, with regard to the building itself, the interior, and especially the personal touch that makes this place an exciting and unique hotel experience.
The hotel takes good care of the things it has collected over the years, at the same time as it thoroughly integrates today’s requirements for comfort and practicality.

In the year 2000 all hotel rooms are being restored. The rooms will have the same sizes as before, but with completely new and exclusive furnishings. By March 2000 all the rooms will be finished. Also the kitchen at Gabelshus preserves traditions and the venerable arts of preparation. Enjoy the delights of the table – fresh ingredients are transformed, the most delicious dishes conjured forth, in an atmosphere that is rare nowadays. Nor was it an accident that Gabelshus was a natural location for the founding of "De historiske hoteller" ("The Historic Hotels") in 1994. The hotel has a unique position in the Norwegian hotel world in the way it views its role as host. At Gabelshus the primary aim is and has always been to be a good host. Guests should always feel welcome and well cared for. The focus is on all the important little details, so that guests almost have the feeling of visiting a private home. And more than any other hotel, Gabelshus can justly be called your home away from home. The building’s long history and rich traditions are being preserved and carried further into a new millennium, enabling as many as possible to enjoy this fantastic place and take part in a very special hotel experience.
